Overview:
SP Systems is looking for a Programmer Anaylst to work within the Suzaku and Swift processing data center, co-located with the High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center (HEASARC) at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GFSC) in Greenbelt, Maryland. Suzaku is a joint X-ray astronomy mission between the US and Japan. Swift is a US Gamma-ray burst chasing satellite. The support the HEASARC provides for missions include: software, data and calibration standards, data processing, and a data archive.
Duties:
Support and development for existing pipeline processing for Suzaku at GSFC.
- Install remotely the Suzaku pipeline at the Japan data center
- Maintain the Suzaku observation logs and the data Level 0.
- Software Development for Suzaku as required.
- Help with the user support
- Maintenance and support of Swift existing software to translate telemetry to FITS
- Act as backup for Swift pipeline processing
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or higher in Physics or Astronomy. Fluent in C , Perl, c-shell, linux. Self-motivated, curious programmer with up-to-date skills.Fortran is desired. Capability to handle multitask assignments and deal with legacy code. Robust error-checking personality.
Highly desired qualifications include:
· Experience with scientific software.
· Experience or knowledge of high energy astrophysics software FTOOLS and XANADU.
· Experience or knowledge of FITS format.
· Experience with multiplatform software development
Desirable: background in physics or astronomy, sys-admin tendencies.
